Product Update | SmartPad2 Heating Assembly Update

We have identified the cause of the recently reported SmartPad2 heating issue and have a clear path forward to correct and validate it. No injuries have been reported.

We want to share what we have learned and the steps we are taking next.

Root Cause Identified

We have received two reports involving localized overheating and damage to the SmartPad's exterior fabric.

Working closely with our heating component manufacturer, our investigation traced the issue to a change in the adhesive formulation used during manufacturing. The modified adhesive included a flame-retardant additive that reduced its bonding strength.

As a result, the internal layers of the heating element were not bonded together strongly enough. With movement or flexing, these layers could loosen or separate slightly, affecting an internal electrical connection and creating a localized hot spot.

For customers familiar with our previous SmartPad2 heating element upgrade, this is a separate manufacturing issue with a different cause.

What Happens Next

With the cause identified, our focus is now on implementing the corrective solution and thoroughly validating it.

Our heating component manufacturer is an established, large-scale manufacturer specializing in advanced flexible heating technologies. Their engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams are working directly with XOTHRM on the corrective solution.

Updated heating assemblies will undergo extensive thermal, electrical, mechanical, and durability testing.

We are committed to making this right. We will not resume normal production or distribution until we have sufficient evidence that the corrective solution addresses the identified issue and performs reliably over time.

Until then, SmartPad2 customers should continue to follow our previously communicated instructions regarding their devices.
